Islands Trust
Becoming a Trustee
Think Globally, Act Locally - The Islands Trust
In the fall of 2018 I became the North Pender Island Trustee for the Islands Trust, a unique form of local governance that has the goal to:
"The object of the Trust is to preserve and protect the Trust Area and its unique amenities and environment for the benefit of the residents of the Trust Area and of British Columbia generally, in cooperation with municipalities, regional districts, improvement districts, other persons and organizations and the government of British Columbia."
I feel honoured to have this opportunity to represent my community and support thoughtful decision making about local environmental management.

Climate Change Emergency
Early in my term as a Trustee, I co-wrote and introduced a Climate Change Emergency motion for the Trust Area. This motion, which was unanimously passed by the Trust Council, has refocused much of the Islands Trust work towards climate change efforts. In combination with the Reconciliation motion, it has centered this work on climate justice.

Trust Policy Statement
As part of my work within the Trust I joined the Trust Programs Committee and was selected as the Chair. The primary work of this committee is currently the revision and re-drafting the Trust Policy Statement to include reconciliation and address issues of climate change. As the Chair of this committee I also sit on the Islands Trust Financial Planning Committee. Additionally, I have worked with staff to support efforts such as the Climate Change Speaker Series.
